Indigenous Coastal Soils

Many people believe or perceive much of florida soils as “sand.”  After all, we are the floating sandbar of the South! When they go to the beach or walk around a beach property, it is very sandy.  However, in many coastal hammocks (before vegetation was removed), there is a rich layer of organic soil.   Many of the plant life thriving in the hammock rely on these rich soils.   Several inches of leaf litter decaying underneath a canopy of trees creates a dark, rich soil that we typically perceive with healthy soils.   This nutrient rich organic soil is what Sustainscape tries to create in your landscape, both naturally and through our fertilization program.
